Sicily Unpacked

Series 1 - Episode 1

It’s an art history programme with food. Or a food programme with art history. Take your pick, as the two presenters are Andrew Graham-Dixon (art historian) and Giorgio Locatelli (chef and restaurant owner).

It turns out to be a stodgy mixture as the pair, pals who adore Sicily, scoff food and drink wine, before they nip off to look at a beautiful ceiling. And Sicily Unpacked feels exclusive – Graham-Dixon and Locatelli talk between themselves to the point where you will want to tap on the screen and say, “Hello? I’m here, too, you know. Tell me about the Cuticchio Puppet Theatre, not each other.”

About this programme

1/3. Andrew Graham-Dixon and Giorgio Locatelli journey across Sicily introducing each other to the things they love about the Mediterranean island. In the first edition, they visit a restaurant in the seaside village of Porto Paolo, where diners are served whatever is on the menu that day, and examine a chapel hidden away in Palermo, before taking the opportunity to explore the capital's markets. They also learn how the Addiopizzo movement is defying the local Mafia, loosening its grip on the island.
