Although it’s got guns and blood, The Mentalist is, in many ways, about as “street” as Flying Doctors. This instalment is a rare foray into the seedier beat of an undercover narcotics squad, with all the gangs, clubs and dirty two-faced operatives that come with it.

When a woman is gunned down in cold blood, Lisbon and Jane are taken to one side to be told (though
of course, Jane already realises) that all is not as it seems. As the investigation progresses, Cho and Rigsby fall under the spell of an escort called Summer, who likes crisps and flirting with police officers. It takes
an impressive woman to tell Cho that he has a “mysterious feline vibe” without getting arrested for it.

About this programme

8/24. Jane is called to a nightclub car park where an undercover policewoman has been shot, and discovers she was trying to obtain incriminating evidence against a drug kingpin - whose henchmen later kidnap him. His only chance of escape lies in playing a psychological game with the dead woman's partner, who appears to have begun to identify with her underworld contacts so closely that she has changed sides and become a criminal.
