Dermot O’Leary has become a household name thanks to his starring role on The X Factor, but the downside is that this detracts from his credibility as a serious, knowledgeable and damn fine music presenter — his Saturday-afternoon R2 show is one of my absolute favourites. Not convinced? Then listen to this examination of the Pogues’ Christmas hit Fairytale of New York — it’s intelligent, informative and entertaining, as all good radio should be.
About this programme
Dermot O'Leary explores the story behind the 1987 festive hit Fairytale of New York, featuring the Pogues and Kirsty MacColl. Including contributions by members of the group, record producer Steve Lillywhite, Kirsty's mother Jean, singer Larry Kirwan and former New York detective Brian McCabe.
