If you insist upon watching this, I guarantee every single member of your family will laugh at you. Because Fast Freddie is the kind of unashamedly sentimental, clichéd drama that television can only get away with at Christmas, and that any reasonable adult will only watch at Christmas. I loved it.
Laurence Fox is Jonathan, an obnoxious millionaire car dealer who is ordered to do community service with disadvantaged teens after he admits a drink-driving charge. One of the teens is an orphan, Freddie, who is in the final stages of a terminal illness and who wants his last Christmas to be perfect. (You’re groaning, I can tell.) Of course, Jonathan discovers that, underneath the bluster, he’s a decent bloke, as he sets about making Freddie’s wishes come true.
By the end, you, yes you, will be sobbing into a box of dates.
About this programme
Lewis star Laurence Fox drops his nice-guy persona to play brash, wealthy, narrow-minded luxury-car dealer Jonathan, who is found guilty of drink-driving and served with an order to spend the run-up to Christmas helping out at a support organisation for troubled young adults. There he meets the recently widowed Laura, who runs the group, and feisty 18-year-old Freddie, who turns out to have only a couple of months to live. Jonathan slowly finds his attitude challenged by his new young friend, especially when he discovers Freddie has never had a proper Christmas, so he sets out to make his wish come true. Sarah Smart, Jack McMullen and Tamzin Outhwaite co-star in this heart-warming festive drama.
