Gravity is the enemy of both ballet dancers and supermodels. As one of the most distinguished British ballerinas of recent years, Deborah Bull has some kind of rapport with the often still beautiful women she talks to here in an attempt to find out what happens to them when their looks and body parts begin to slide floorwards.
After the adoration of the catwalk, how can they face the prospect of losing the thing for which they were most valued? As one of them puts it: “Any woman who has been significantly rewarded for beauty is going to be anxious about ageing”. Former glamour lovelies Annabel Giles, Jean Shrimpton and Lysette Anthony are among those offering the benefits of their hindsight and one possibility they discuss is that of an extended career in modelling. So where’s Twiggy?
