About this programme

12/20. Melvyn Bragg takes his vintage mobile cinema to Clydebank, near Glasgow, to reveal the vitality of Britain's shipyards in the 1930s. He learns about the spectacle surrounding launch days, travels to the top of the Titan crane to meet historian Anthony Burton, and finds out the consequences the collapse of the shipbuilding industry had on local communities.
