To Build or Not to Build

Series 2 - Episode 7

Radio Times
Review by:
Jane Rackham

This is a bit like a downgraded version of Channel 4’s Grand Designs in that it follows some of the 20,000 British people who self-build their own house each year. They all want to create their dream home – whether that’s an eco-friendly cottage, a family home in York, a structure made out of polystyrene blocks or a ranch in the Scottish borders.

In between site visits presenter Simon O’Brien, who’s still remembered fondly as Brookside’s Damon Grant even though his character died more than 20 years ago, learns some of the tricks of the building trade. Today he goes back to college to try his hand at tiling.
