The Doctor takes Rory and Amy to Apalapucia, supposedly a top holiday destination, but they arrive in a clinical “kindness facility” maintained by white robots. The planet is beset by a disease that is deadly to two-hearted races, so the Time Lord must retreat to his Tardis, while poor Amy is caught in a time stream running far faster than that of her friends. How long will it take Rory to reach her?
This beautifully directed, really quite moving episode tests the Ponds’ relationship to the limit. Arthur Darvill and Karen Gillan have never been better. Look out for a subtle but effective make-up job and, among a surprisingly minuscule cast, Imelda Staunton as the voice of the Interface.
About this programme
10/13. Amy is trapped in a quarantine facility for victims of an alien plague, one that threatens to claim the Doctor's life within a day. With the Time Lord incapacitated, it is up to Rory to break in and rescue her before the medics in charge can administer their dreaded treatment. However, incarceration brings out very different aspects of his wife's personality. Sci-fi adventure, with the voice of Imelda Staunton.
