Sky Arts’ priceless secret weapon, John Myatt, the urbane convicted art forger, copies a famous painting, but with a celebrity as the sitter. Here it’s American Gothic, Grant Wood’s ambiguous 1930 celebration of rural Americana. Myatt brilliantly knocks up a copy, with Paul O’Grady playing the bespectacled, pitchfork-wielding man.
O’Grady is as amiably subversive as ever during their entertaining chat, suggesting that the judge was overly harsh in giving Myatt a custodial sentence merely
for helping to perpetrate a massive art fraud.
