About this programme
Bridget Kendall visits the USA to meet former Peace Corps volunteers and evaluate their roles as America's `missionaries of democracy'. The organisation was set up by President Kennedy in a bid to bring knowledge about foreign customs to his country and in some way stem the threat of communism.
