Susan Sarandon, looking dowdy in a fawn cardigan, guest-stars as decrepit Frank Rossitano’s former high-school teacher, Lynn Onkman. She’s just been released from prison after a scandal involving her relationship with a pupil. Yes, Frank was that pupil. Hard to believe.
Although there’s no doubt that 30 Rock is showing its age (ratings are sliding alarmingly in the US), there are still sparks of the old magic, despite a poor central story about a trashy reality show based on the life of Tracy Jordan’s volcanic wife, Angie.
There are some good gags involving Jack Donaghy’s supposedly gay, football-playing days back in the 1970s. But the best lines belong to Lynn and Frank: Lynn: “How did you find out where I worked?” Frank: “It’s one of the benefits of being in love with a registered sex offender.”
