About this programme
The effect of albums by major jazz stars, Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck, Charles Mingus and Ornette Coleman, all released in the final year of the 1950s. Together, the four men changed the face of music as they marked the definitive breakaway of jazz from bebop, and forged a new genre with greater freedom of expression than ever before, heralding the dawn of the 1960s.
