Ladies, if you ever get lucky with detective Matt Devlin, take care over your undergarments, you don’t want him to get the wrong idea. As Devlin looms over the body of a murdered prostitute, he remarks, “A working girl. That explains the push-up bra.” So push-up bras are worn only by hookers? Really, Matt? Really?
The woman, with weary inevitability, was from Eastern Europe and had a flourishing business with a metronomic turnaround of clients. One of them is a posh, charming and handsome historian/author (Greg Wise), a family man who is devoted to his wife and disabled son. Devlin (Jamie Bamber) has actually read one of his books, which is possibly the most surprising detail in the entire episode. Matt can read?
Back at the station, you might find yourself wincing as the awesome Harriet Walter (boss Natalie Chandler), is forced into talking all gorblimey when she refers to a suspect who “ponced a fag off a couple of waiters”.
Over at the CPS, bland prosecutor Jacob Thorne leaves the important stuff to Alesha Phillips, though only after they have discussed the case while walking in tandem through the streets of London. It seems to aid the thought processes.
