About this programme

11/11. Actor Martin Freeman traces his paternal roots, beginning by finding out if there is any truth in the story that his grandfather was killed while making a cup of tea at Dunkirk. He then delves farther back in time, enlisting the help of a genealogist to find a marriage certificate for his great-grandparents, and his investigation into the death of six of the couple's 12 children uncovers a dark and hidden chapter of social history.
