Gently veers into Morse and Lewis territory in this episode, with a visit to the dreamy quads of Durham University, where a lecturer has been murdered.
If you’ve ever wondered what a posh northern university looked like in the 60s, here’s your answer: the students dress in paisley and talk like Austin Powers – the “guys and chicks” are all “far out” and into “free love”. Anyone would think it was San Francisco in 69.
Oh, and in those days Durham was by the sea and had a naval dockyard... Get past these trifling irregularities and you’ll enjoy an intriguing tale of peace activists and secret nightclubs.
