About this programme

8/8. Kevin McCloud follows the progress of self-made property developer Barry Surtees and his wife Julie as they try to build a four-storey mansion complete with pool, gym, artist's studio, fantasy bedroom and Japanese roof garden. The project is not without its difficulties as the cost of materials escalates, neighbours become unhappy about the house dwarfing the rest of the street, and Barry undergoes triple heart-bypass surgery.
