As Lewis brushes down his dinner suit for a rare date and Hathaway heads off to a music festival, a bunch of unlikely trivia fiends gather for a quiz weekend. As you’d expect, one of them is soon lying dead in the college fountain.
Among the suspects there’s an old flame of the deceased, a squaddie who sleeps with a knife under his pillow, a pair of bufferish dons, some lawyers, and presiding over it all a hearty quizmaster played by Alan Davies. This enjoyable heritage whodunnit is played out like a country house mystery weekend with better actors. Timothy West, Nicholas Farrell and Alastair Mackenzie are among them.

3/4. Hathaway and Lewis investigate a murder committed on the first night of a quiz weekend held at Chaucer College. Sealing the college grounds to interrogate the remaining 11 contestants, the pair discover the victim had a track record for sexual harassment involving fellow competitors, as well as past dealings with a shady engineering business funded by Russian gangsters and masterminded by Oxford professor Charles Milner - another quiz fan. With guest stars Alan Davies (QI), Timothy West (Bleak House) and Nicholas Farrell (The Iron Lady).
