This double bill of the classic John Sullivan comedy (this series of revised repeats started on Monday) was first shown in 1981. In A Slow Bus to Chingford, Del launches Trotters’ Ethnic Tours (a scenic tour taking in such ethnic sights as the Lee Valley Viaduct). Then, in The Russians Are Coming, with the threat of nuclear holocaust preying on Rodney’s mind (as it did for many in the early 80s), Del and Rodney decide to use the three tons of lead they’ve acquired to build a bomb shelter – on top of Mandela House. The latter is an ingenious episode with David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst both getting especially clever dialogue to deliver.

About this programme
