Golf: The Open Championship

2014 Day Two

2014 Day Two

About this programme

Hazel Irvine introduces live coverage of the second day at Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Hoylake, where the 143rd staging of the Major continues. One of the key aims for many of the players today will be simply to make the cut and ensure they are involved in the last two rounds, as any of those who progress to the weekend will fancy their chances in a tournament that traditionally sees golfers make a late move up the leaderboard, especially if conditions are more favourable to the early starters. Those failing to prolong their presence last year included the likes of Luke Donald, Jim Furyk, Justin Rose, Rory McIlroy and Vijay Singh, while eventual champion Phil Mickelson made his job much more difficult with a round of 74 that saw him finish the day four shots adrift of the lead in a share of 11th place. That lead was held by veteran Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenez, and the top 10 at the end of the day included fellow Ryder Cup stars Henrik Stenson and Lee Westwood, along with a strong American contingent led by Tiger Woods. With commentary by Peter Alliss, Ken Brown, Andrew Cotter, Mark James, Phil Parkin, Maureen Madill, Scott Drummond, Rishi Persad and Russell Fuller, and reports by Dan Walker.
