“A vivid journey across central Europe” is the promise of this concert, with works by Beethoven, Dvorak and Richard Strauss. And to match the bill, the Albert Hall welcomes Zurich’s Tonhalle Orchestra under the baton of David Zinman, in this, his last concert after two decades as their chief conductor.

The limelight will be on German violinist Julia Fischer for Dvorak’s Violin Concerto, an exquisite Romantic work that she’s championed around the world and recorded last year with Zinman and the Tonhalle to great acclaim.

Upping the glamour factor, Australian soprano Danielle De Niese has been hired for hosting duties with Proms stalwart Petroc Trelawny.
