- Radio Times
The fingerprints of executive producer Steven Spielberg are all over this US thriller: extraterrestrials, a child actor to tug at the heartstrings and a cast of thousands. The fun and games begin six months after spidery aliens have wiped out 90 per cent of life on Earth. Having ceded yet another city, the survivors set out to find a safe haven under the command of a hard-nosed military man.
Our hero is his second-in-command: pensive history professor Tom Mason (Noah Wyle, who’s kept his furrowed brow from his years on ER). With food stores low, Tom is dispatched to find supplies and spots his missing son, who’s been enslaved by the aliens...
It’s a slick, engrossing first episode, albeit with a generous dollop of Spielbergian sentiment.
