About this programme

Architectural historian David Heathcote visits an art deco fantasy house in rural Devon. Inspired by a visit to California in the 1930s, baker Walter Price decided to create a mansion similar to Pickfair - the former home of Hollywood stars Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford - complete with marble staircase built to look like a piano keyboard. He also explores some of the gadgets that brought glamour to people's lives, including radios and cocktail shakers.
