Day Two

Day Two

About this programme

Sue Barker presents from the All England Club in SW19, where the first-round matches in the men's and ladies' singles are set to continue. Tradition dictates that the ladies' champion appears first on Centre Court on day two, but Marion Bartoli retired soon after her triumph here last year, leaving an unusual diversion to the proceedings, with runner-up Sabine Lisicki having that honour instead against Julia Glushko. The crowds on the show courts will still certainly find no shortage of star names in attendance though, and the propensity for surprises is always high at this stage, as the players try to adapt to playing on the grass, which takes up less and less of the calendar these days, as clay and hard courts dominate. Serena Williams will start among the favourites yet again, despite her shock early exit at this month's French Open, and she will begin her campaign against Anna Tatishviki, while Ana Ivanovic v Francesca Schiavone is among the eye-catching matches.
