About this programme
8/16. A look back at the 1978 World Cup, which took place in Argentina and saw the host nation win the trophy for the first time in controversial circumstances. This was the last time that the tournament was staged in South America prior to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, and the Argentines remained focus despite concerns about the military dictatorship running the country and question marks as to their 6-0 victory over Peru that saw them progress to the final at Brazil's expense. Scotland were, for the second successive time, Britain's only representatives, with their campaign ending in agonising failure once more, with only the classic Archie Gemmill goal against the Netherlands fondly remembered.
