Day Seven

Day Seven

About this programme

Sue Barker presents as day seven gets under way at the All England Club, where the men's and ladies' fourth-round singles matches are scheduled to take place, along with the remaining third-round fixtures. Grigor Dimitrov v Leonardo Mayer, Petra Kvitova v Shuai Peng and Angelique Kerber v Maria Sharapova are among the last-16 matches, with the schedule running slightly behind due to rain on Saturday. There is little doubt as to the match that created the most headlines at this stage last year, as Sabine Lisicki caused a major upset by defeating defending champion and number one seed Serena Williams in three sets. Williams was aiming to win the title for the sixth time and the fourth occasion in five years, and seemed to be on track when she recovered to comfortably take the second set. However, her German opponent held her nerve to clinch a 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 victory, the most famous of her career, and would eventually go all the way to the final before losing to Marion Bartoli. There was British disappointment in the ladies's singles though, as Laura Robson's run was ended by Kaia Kanepi, who edged through to the last eight with a 7-6, 7-5 triumph.
