Beetles and mini-saurs creeping about in the dark are all very well, but what kids really want is a dirty great T rex galumphing down the high street, overturning cars and suchlike. And the penultimate Primeval of the series duly obliges.
It’s just one of the crises running the ARC team ragged as anomalies open up all over the world, spilling pre-historic and future creatures into the present day. It’s a going-for-broke episode that’s mad as a flapping pterodactyl, but wins the day with bold visuals and widescreen ambition. Best bit? Ben Miller as the laconic Lester taking issue with a beastie bouncing on his Jag: “Oi! Have you any idea how much that thing cost?”
About this programme
5/10. The team battles a deadly flesh-eating fungus that takes over any human it comes into contact with, turning the victims into a hideous shell of their former self. However, they face a race against time to destroy the creature before it spreads its lethal spores throughout the whole country, absorbing everyone it encounters and gaining in strength and momentum all the time. Starring Jason Flemyng and Hannah Spearritt.
