Episode 4827

There was an outcry when villainous Nick Cotton was given an off-screen death, but can we be sure he’s met his maker? Maybe it’s a big scam? Perhaps, in six months’ time, Nick will turn up on Dot’s doorstep with a “Hello, Ma” on his lips and a vial of poison in his pocket?

This evening, though, we have the funeral followed by a wake at the Vic. The pub is, of course, an appropriate venue, because of Nick’s long association with the Walford boozer. I’m thinking of the time he had that brawl with Ali Osman and ended up getting barred. Or the occasion he stabbed landlord Eddie Royle to death. Ah, what memories. Dot must be so proud.

About this programme

After the events at the wake, Dot is more resolute than ever in her wish to see Nick and she demands that Charlie take her to the crematorium to view her son's body. Peter persuades Lucy to go into business with Lauren, and Mick encourages Johnny to reconcile with his mum, Linda. Sharon unveils the name of the bar to Phil - and then questions him about what he was up to with Shirley at the wake - while Cora ends up with nowhere to stay after pushing Patrick too far.
