Tom Heap, the presenter who fronts Countryfile’s investigations into rural issues, has scored a bit of a coup this week. He has an exclusive interview with Princess Anne, in which we’re told the Princess Royal will discuss her views on big issues confronting the British countryside and show Tom around Gatcombe Park, her Gloucestershire estate.

Ellie Harrison, meanwhile, has a slightly more modest Gloucestershire smallholding and she is wondering what to plant. The initial plan is for wild flowers, so she travels to meet the experts at Kew Gardens, who have the perfect seed selection to start her off. Countryfile viewers will have the chance to get a free pack of their own.

About this programme

Tom Heap meets Princess Anne at her home, Gatcombe Park in Gloucestershire, which she runs as a working farm. The princess discusses many of the issues confronting the British countryside and gives Tom a rare glimpse into her life on the estate. Gloucestershire is also the home of presenter Ellie Harrison, who wants ideas on what to do with her more modest smallholding, and visits Kew Gardens for advice on planting native wild flowers.
