Midsomer Murders

Series 2 - 1. Death's Shadow

Radio Times
Review by:
David Butcher

A very early episode this, from the start of series two, back in January 1999. At the time, Radio Times described the episode as “an entertaining whodunnit that isn’t too taxing”, which could equally apply to pretty much any episode since.

Standout guest star is Richard Briers, playing the vicar of picturesque village Badger’s Drift, where Barnaby and his wife Joyce are planning to renew their wedding vows.

Instead Barnaby and Sergeant Troy find themselves investigating the murder of a local property developer, who was killed with an Indian sword belonging to said vicar. As you would hope, they uncover a hotbed of feuding and corruption – and a few more deaths.

About this programme

1/8. Barnaby and Troy set out to find a motive for a terminally ill property developer's murder. Many of the Badger's Drift residents have reason to hold a grudge against their charmless neighbour, but the motive proves even more sinister than the detectives could have imagined. Mystery, starring John Nettles, Daniel Casey, Richard Briers and Judy Parfitt.
