TV’s most solid detective, DCI Barnaby (John Nettles) doesn’t have the benefit of second sight (as at least one local family in Midsomer Mere claims to have), so he has to rely on more traditional detection methods in this 2005 story.
Rich kid John Ransom (James Hoare) has collapsed and died after being chucked out of the pub. He has deep scorch marks across his scalp that, Nettles discovers, are the result of him willingly being wired up by his brother who’s experimenting with brainwave activity. As Barnaby delves deeper, he’s startled to discover that reclusive forester Little Mal Kirby (Owen Teale) believes Barnaby himself is linked to the death.
