It’s a little-known fact but the Victorian legend of Spring Heeled Jack was begun by a velociraptor... according to the latest freewheeling instalment of Primeval. Matt clumsily sends the beast back to 1868 London through an anomaly and when he follows it through to make amends, he meets his old flame Emily.
The time-torn sweethearts both try to track down the lethal therapod, but that’s not the only monster in Emily’s midst: her appalling husband Henry wants her sectioned.
It’s a moody, impassioned instalment and the period setting – all top hats, gas lamps and smog – adds a gritty new dimension to the usual roar-and-claw. Best episode so far.
