About this programme
From the Barbican Centre, London, Stéphane Denève conducts the BBC Symphony Orchestra in Poulenc's suite from his ballet Les animaux modèles, featuring readings of witty morality tales by comic actor Stephen Mangan in-between the movements of the suite. The orchestra is joined by singers from the Royal Academy of Music in Ravel's opera L'enfant et les sortilèges, which tells the magical story of a young boy driven to cruelty by boredom, provoking the animals and objects around him to spring to life and conspire against him.
