About this programme

1/3. Sean Bean narrates a three-part docu-drama charting the campaign waged by Allied forces toward the end of the Second World War which culminated in the final conquest of Hitler's Reich. He begins with an account of the decisive struggle to break out from the Normandy beach-head in June 1944 and advance across Europe, drawing on the memories of those who fought on both sides, and charts the growing tension between American and British commanders Dwight D Eisenhower and General Montgomery.
