About this programme

Computer techniques are used to colour vintage newsreel footage, allowing viewers to witness key events of the global conflict from an entirely new perspective. Interviews with some of the combatants, excerpts from diary material and letters from the front combine to create a picture of the first major war of the industrial age. Kenneth Branagh narrates.
