About this programme
Part one of two. Sheffield musicians of the 1980s recall how they reacted to their city's decline during Margaret Thatcher's time as prime minister. With the steel and coal industries suddenly weakened, Sheffield experienced a huge rise in unemployment - but artists and musicians used the derelict empty spaces for their own ends, and created music reflecting life in the fading industrial metropolis. Featuring contributions by Jarvis Cocker, Richard Hawley, Moloko's Mark Brydon and Rob Gordon of Warp Records.
