Anthony LaPaglia's accent troubles - Radio Times, 22 August 2005 |
 |
|
|
Anthony LaPaglia has the voice down
pat as stone-faced FBI agent Jack Malone in
Without a Trace. But in his early
career in the USA, the Australian actor's
supposed trace of Strine stopped him getting
work. "When they asked, 'Where are you from?',
I said, 'Brooklyn' - and I got the job. It made life
easier," he says.
As to the Manchester-meets-London accent he used as Daphne's brother
Simon in Frasier: "It's a really bad hybrid
accent, but it's funny, and that's all that
matters," he says. "I copped a lot of heat for
that." But he did win an Emmy for the role.
