Gillian Anderson talked to Sylvie Simmons about recapturing the old X-Files magic in a second feature film.
Gillian Anderson on
filming
When I was there it was minus 18°C, but David was there for a longer period and experienced it a bit more. My most vivid memory is listening to Billy Connolly telling stories between takes. He's such a great storyteller and he has some very funny stories.
being Scully
It took a good couple of days to get back into her shoes again. It was definitely more challenging than I had anticipated. Then it was like getting on a bicycle, as they say.
the Mulder and Scully chemistry
Having the two characters in the same room at the same time, the dynamic that the two of them have together, the easy familiarity, still exists somewhere out there and it was welcome and comfortable to experience again. It's a pretty unique and pretty deep connection that these two people have, and although it's all make believe, they have such a connection. Whereas other relationships in the real world,
as much as you may be in love or you may be in marriage or whatever, there's always baggage, but the two of them don't carry that much emotional baggage. So there's a sweetness and a purity to it that I think is quite rare.
the plot - what can she tell us?
Nothing!
Doctor Who - is it any good?
I'm a fan of the original, which I watched when I was a kid, but I haven't seen it since.
her X-Files moment
I've never seen a UFO. I've stayed in houses before that I've been pretty certain have been haunted in one way or another, but no real experiences - just really eerie feelings.
her next project
My next project is to have a baby [her third child, and her second with partner Mark Griffiths, which is due in late October. She became pregnant towards the end of shooting the new X-Files movie.] I don't think we would have done the film if they had thought I was pregnant. [The last time she was - during the TV series - Chris Carter rewrote the script and had her abducted by aliens.]
