Ireland masquerades as England - Radio Times, 5 October 2007 |

Has England ever looked more lovely than in
The Tudors? Well, don't bank
on it - it's Ireland. Even the supposed Ducal
Palace in the Italian city of Urbino, in
the opening sequence, is actually the Royal
Hospital at Kilmainham in Dublin. Much of
the drama series was filmed at Ardmore
Studios, south of Dublin, where the second
series is currently under way.
It's not the only
TV production filming over there - tax breaks
are granted to TV series as well as to films
destined for cinema release. It's a powerful
persuader - in Murphy's Law, Ireland stands in for Norfolk. What we can't work out, though, is why
Globo TV shot a Brazilian soap, Eterna Magia, in Ireland earlier this year!
