Paul Abbott rejects famous faces: Radio Times, 18 January 2008 |

Sarah Byrne can count herself lucky to
be one of the handful of new faces appearing
in the fifth series of Shameless. The 18-year-old actress, who plays
Yvonne's wayward daughter Meena, has
succeeded where more famous names have
failed.
"I get messages from people like
John Simm, Matt Lucas and Bill Nighy
wanting to make a guest appearance," says
series creator Paul Abbott. "We don't need
them. The best aspect of the show is that
we started with no recognisable people.
We don't need faces to sell the series."
