Professor Nick Cutter
(Douglas Henshall)
World-renowned evolutionary
palaeontologist who specialises in
evolutionary blips - bizarre fossils,
unexplainable skeletons
the bits
that Darwin might have missed. Eight
years ago, his wife Helen disappeared
without explanation in the Forest of
Dean. As a result, his ears prick up at
any talk of strange phenomena that
might provide him with an answer.
Stephen Hart
(James Murray)
Professor Cutter's lab technician
turns out to be a dead-eye
marksman, a wily monster-hunter
and all-round action man rolled into
one. Cross David Attenborough's
wisdom with Ray Mears's know-how,
add a soupçon of James Bond's
panache and you're not far off.
Connor Temple
(Andrew Lee Potts)
Wide-eyed young dino-geek who thinks that
ten-ton carnivorous disembowellers roaming the
Forest of Dean are just the most exciting thing
imaginable. Cutter's graduate student is also
developing a secret crush on Abby - except
everyone on the team knows about it.
Abby Maitland
(Hannah Spearritt)
Sassy zoologist with white-hot hairdo and an
attitude to match. Starts out working in the
reptile house at the local zoo, but cutbacks leave
her unemployed. Happily, a job soon presents
itself when she chances upon Rex, a lizard that
appears to belong to an entirely new species.
Claudia Brown
(Lucy Brown)
Posh totty in killer heels from
the Home Office, Claudia has
one eye on the case of the
mysteriously materialising
dinosaurs and the other on
Cutter. Their will-they/won't they
relationship spans the
series, with Claudia caught
between the demands of Lester
and the Prof.
James
Lester
(Ben Miller)
Arrogant Home
Office nabob, prone
to snide remarks and
shameless, self-serving power plays.
Lester stays put firmly within the safety
of the glass and chrome at HQ and is the
chalk to Cutter's cheese - Lester thinks
the government knows best; Cutter
thinks the government knows nothing.
Capt Tom Ryan
(Mark Wakeling)
When the going gets
tough, the tough get
former SAS operative Ryan,
who is called up by Claudia to provide a bit of muscle
when Cutter needs physical back-up.
A quiet man, but a quiet man with a
machine gun and night-vision goggles -
always the type to watch out for.
Helen Cutter
(Juliet
Aubrey)
Nick Cutter's
university
sweetheart, then
wife, she was also a
high-flying evolutionary
scientist. Believed that
human impact on the environment is
wholly destructive and held out little
hope for the future of the human race.
Her disappearance eight years ago
forms a central mystery in Primeval.
