Series three introduction - Radio Times, November 2006 |

As Lost embarks on its third season, Benji Wilson rounds up some of the mysteries sure to get fans talking.
Three castaways have
been captured by the "Others",
the island's menacing,
anonymous locals. Back at
camp, the mysterious hatch has
proved to contain a giant
electromagnet that may have
caused the plane crash - but
may also have alerted rescuers.
Clear? No? Well, fear not: it's
going to get easier. Executive
Producer Carlton Cuse says,
"We tried to design it this year to make the basic
concept pretty
simple: our characters
versus the Others."
So what about those
Others? We'll soon
learn more about them
- like the real name of
their leader Henry Gale,
and why he's chosen to take
Jack, Kate and Sawyer.
So can actor Michael Emerson
back up Henry's assertion in
series two that "we're the good
guys"? "I've always thought
Henry was a guerilla leader: the
Others are people on a
mission with a calling of some
sort that they believe is
ethical. We worry
about them
because we
don't know
what the
calling is.
But when it's revealed it
will be something
staggering and it will
shift our sympathies."
Take the
disquietingly serene
Juliet (Elizabeth
Mitchell), for example,
who's keeping Jack under lock
and key. An impending romance?
"She's drawn to Jack, but she's
massively torn," Mitchell says.
Other than the Others,
there's plenty more to ponder.
Like Kate: make your mind
up sweet-cheeks, Jack or
Sawyer? The love triangle,
we're told, will be resolved this
year. Our money's on Sawyer.
What happened to Desmond,
Eko and Locke when the
hatch was blown up at the end
of season two? Well, all three
are still on the cast list
Locke's legs. We don't know
why he was temporarily in
a wheelchair. We will soon.
Sun is pregnant. The kid
must be her husband Jin's,
right? Come on, this is Lost!
Charlie and Claire. Last
seen enjoying a long-overdue
kiss after two
series' flirtation. There's
no sight of them to start
with, but they return in
episode three.
