John Simm's big break - Radio Times, January 2006

John Simm in Life on Mars © BBC
The star of Life on Mars recalls some early acting experiences.

"The first thing I did that was actually screened was an episode of Rumpole of the Bailey in 1992. It was called 'Rumpole and the Reform of Joby Jonson' and I played Joby Jonson. I'm not sure if Joby did really reform. I seem to recall he got sent down for something naughty. All I remember is that I was in my last term at drama school and that I was very thin. However, my first experience on a set was when I did a day's filming on Between the Lines. I played a character called PC Whitting and for some reason I rubber-stamped a policewoman's arse! Sadly, the entire scene was cut."
