Jane Rackham charts the Hustle star's path to fame.
"Marc Warren's CV reads like a Who's Who of the dark and debauched.
"I don't get offered many sitcoms," says the 36-year-old, who's been compared to a young Malcolm McDowell. "My parts usually involve drugs, sex and violence - but they're great to play.
It's almost like therapy to be really nasty as I'm actually quite mild-mannered."
A working-class lad from Northampton, Warren made his TV debut in Grange Hill as
"a fiend from public school", and guest spots in everything from Prime Suspect to The Bill and A Touch of Frost followed - usually as the baddie.
However, he came to prominence in The Vice as a cop who came to a violent end, then a
rapist in Channel 4's Men Only, a scared soldier in Spielberg's Band of Brothers and a two-bit crook in State of Play. His current role in Hustle as Danny Blue, a rookie con artist, is a slight departure, then.
"Danny's cool, very cheeky, and can get away with anything with a smile," says Warren (who's recently been filming Colour Me Kubrick
with John Malkovich). "I wouldn't say he was in touch with his feminine side - but he does love to touch anything feminine!"
