She's young, talented and bears more than a passing resemblance to Hollywood superstar Liv Tyler. Jaime Murray seems certain to be one to watch in 2004.
The 24-year-old actress will be seen in her first major TV role next month on BBC1. She plays the female lead in Hustle, a stylish ensemble thriller from the makers of Spooks that also stars veteran American actor Robert Vaughn, Adrian Lester and Marc Warren.
"When they told me I'd got the part I was walking down the street and I just squealed very loudly," says Murray. "It's just a great opportunity for me."
Is she looking forward to the interest the role in Hustle will surely bring? "Each day on set they had a wonderful make-up artist doing the whole works on me and making me look absolutely gorgeous. I don't think anyone is going to recognise me in real life - I'm nothing like that."
Her father is Billy Murray, best known for playing DS Don Beech in The Bill. Despite his own successful career, however, he didn't want his daughter to follow in his footsteps, and was delighted when she began a philosophy and psychology degree at the London School of Economics. "Both my parents were relieved to see me doing something academic. But I left a year into my course and started at drama school. Now my dad's over the moon about my new role."
This isn't the first time Murray has tasted the limelight. When she was 18 she teamed up with band Stretch 'n' Vern for the hit single I'm Alive. "I was shamelessly miming over a dance track on Top of the Pops. If I ever become a big star they'll drag that out to shame me," she laughs.
