Sendhil Ramamurthy on Mohinder's accent - Radio Times, February 2007 |
 |
|
|
Danny Scott learns how Heroes actor Sendhil Ramamurthy found Mohinder's dulcet tones.
"If you can't wait for hit US drama Heroes to come to BBC2 and have already
headed for Sci-Fi, you may find yourself asking: where does Sendhil
Ramamurthy, who plays Mohinder and provides the series' philosophical
voiceovers, get his accent? Is he British and we just missed him?
The answer is no. He's Chicago-born,
of Indian parents. "The
producers wanted a very specific
accent," he says. "I did an Indian
accent, but they said the guy was
educated in English, so it should be a
British accent with a touch of Indian."
Ramamurthy does, however, have
British links that may have helped:
he graduated from London actors'
school the Webber Douglas Academy
in 1999, has performed at the RSC,
and has appeared in both Casualty
and Ultimate Force. He's also married
to Polish actress Olga Sosnovska, who
played Adam Carter's now-deceased
wife Fiona in BBC1's Spooks."
