The excellent sitcom Gavin and Stacey owes a lot to Fat Friends, Kay Mellor's ITV1 drama series set around the members of a slimming class. James Corden and Ruth Jones wrote the initial G and S script while making the third series, and their casting as Smithy and Nessa also meant a reunion with Fat Friends co-star Alison Steadman, who plays Gavin's mum, Pam.
And look closely at Jones in Nessa's outfit. "The wig is actually the blond one I wore when I played Kelly in Fat Friends. It's been dyed and
cut," says Jones. "I'm all for a bit of recycling."
