Meet Shaun Pye - Radio Times, August 2005

Shaun Pye in Extras © BBC
Some background information on Extras' supercilious background artist.

Where you've seen him

You may remember him from the last series of C4's 11 O'Clock Show or recognise his voice as that of Othello the swearing baby in BBC3's Monkey Dust (which he created with producer/writer Harry Thompson).

But Pye's primarily a stand-up comedian and writer, having contributed to an impressive list of shows, including Armstrong and Miller and They Think It's All Over. He's also Jonathan Ross's personal gag-writer.

What he's doing now

Giving Ricky Gervais a hard time in Extras. He plays Greg, a sneering, sarcastic fellow background artist. He was hired on the spot after Gervais briefly outlined the character to him and Pye said, "I can do that!"

Where he's going

Developing a new TV sitcom based in a brothel, which he's co-written with Harry Thompson.
