After disappearing off to Africa for eight
episodes, Dr Carter is back in ER
with a bang this week. Actor Noah Wyle
asked for time off from the series to be with his
wife Tracy and their 16-month-old son, Owen,
to compensate for missing out earlier on.
"We brought him home from the hospital on
Monday, and I was back at work on Tuesday,"
says Wyle, who's been in the medical drama
from the beginning. "It was a pretty gruelling
schedule, and I felt that after nine and a
half years on ER, I wanted to spend the fall
watching my son learn how to crawl and walk."
So at Wyle's suggestion, Carter went off to
join Dr Luka Kovac in Africa. "Since we started
out on opposite sides of the Abby love triangle,
it's excellent to come out on the other side as
friends," says Wyle.
