"You have to get a bit manic when you do the Dalek voice," says Nick Briggs, who uses an electronic device called a ring modulator to produce the Dalek vocal effect.

He also throws himself into the part. At one stage he brought filming to a halt over the way the Daleks' lights were being flashed in time with his words. "I just strode on to the set…I could have got myself fired!"
