Quentin Tarantino tackles CSI - Radio Times, July 2005

Jenny Eden investigated how cinema's enfant terrible came to direct the fifth series finale of grisly crime drama series CSI.

Tarantino on his love of the show

"I'm a big fan. I love the mystery aspect and the way the stories are deconstructed."

On getting the chance to direct an episode

"Billy [star William Petersen] gave me a call and asked if it was something I'd be interested in doing, and I had to stop and go, 'Can I do a CSI?'."

"I know the back stories of all the CSI characters. I know them all really, really well and I know all the sets. It's the same thing as if you're a kid
and watching Star Trek and you dream up your own episode and you get to do it."

The series stars on Tarantino

"He's extremely imaginative and he has a very infectious enthusiasm. I think his film-making style lends itself to CSI in that it's a very visual show, with a lot of close-ups and clearly there's a lot of blood."
MARG HELGENBERGER

"At first I thought, 'Why do I get to be the guy who's buried and covered with ants?' When I heard Quentin was going to direct it my jaw kind of dropped. When he said the stuff in the coffin should be just me and him and a light crew to be more intimate, I knew we were going to go to a pretty dark place."
